(June 29, 1797 - January 19, 1868)
+
He ministered to the Indians in the Great Lakes area of the United States. He was the first bishop of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (Diocese of Marquette) from 1853 - 1860. He spoke several languages and took on the task of translating and publishing a dictionary in the Ojibway language.

||||| INTERCESSORY PRAYER
Please ask Father Baraga to intercede for the needs of your loved ones and friends, especially in matters of faith and evangelization. We also encourage you to pray for him on your personal rosary but before you do, remember him in prayer, especially for his Sainthood.

||||| WOODEN BEADS WITH TRADE BEADS
We have used old hand finished trade beads for the Pater beads on this rosary. They are known as cornerless cube vaseline beads (Bohemian, mid to late 1800's) around the time of Baraga. They are much more of a pale yellow than shown. Note natural wear as this assures us these beads are very old and worn from use. Framed with soft green faceted 'gemcuts' an antiqued metal caps to symbolize the lakes. The deep rich brown wooden Ave beads are 10 mm and are chosen because of the old snowshoes.

||||| CROSS OVER 100 YEARS OLD The Padre beads in this series are late 1800's early 1900's. The cross used on this series is cast from the late 18c Europe and is available without the rosary. The rosary is made all in one loop following tradition.
