||||| CRX.96 - JESUIT MISSIONARY CRUCIFIX: A rare find. Original found in the Mohawk Valley region of what we now know as NY at an old Jesuit Mission site dig. One of those crucifixes you wish could talk. What a history it could tell about the Jesuit who wore it and the events that surrounded it. The only known history passed to us by the collector was that it was carved by a priest who was ministering the indians in that area. Was cleaned of all hard, natural encrustation caused by being buried for such a long period.

||||| HISTORY: We will never know if there is a connection but it is a beautiful reminder of the North American Martyrs who were martyred at the Mohawk Indian village of Ossernenon between 1642 and 1646. St. Rene Goupil, a Jesuit brother, was martyred in 1642. St. Isaac Jogues, a Jesuit priest, and St. John Lalande, a lay missionary, were martyred in 1646. They remain the only canonized martyrs of the United States.

||||| LILY of the MOHAWKS: The first recitation of the Rosary in what is now New York State took place at the site on September 29, 1642. Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, a Mohawk woman, was born there in 1656.

||||| ABOUT THE CRUCIFIX: Corpus is carved into surface of cross. Traditional fleur de lys ends typical of the French Lorraine design, also known as a 'budding cross' used during the beaver fur trade period. A very sturdy crucifix, very thick. A gem of a crucifix to wear on a leather cord or a chain.

||||| ABOUT OUR MEDALS: All medals on our site are hand cast in sterling silver or solid bronze from antiques and vintage pieces then antiqued to restore original patina. Note now in White Bronze
