SISTER DEATH III:

AVE BEADS: Our olive pits are ordered directly from Jerusalem.  These have been here for quite awhile and darkened with age to a deep, rich patina.  Ours are also well shaped.  Most purchased today appear to be bleached and have very irregular cuts. These above are more uniform in size.

PATER BEADS: 10mm Little hand carved skulls to remind us of Francis’ embracing of ‘Sister Death’ in Canticle of the Sun

CRUCIFIX: LG SAN DAMIANO Crucifix – Europe/19c – (2.5 in.)

Rosary is made in the traditional “all one loop” design which has no center.

Francis speaks of Sister Death in his Canticle of the Sun. And many images of him show a skull in the art. His signature includes the ‘Tau’ cross ending in the grave of Adam and his skull. Remembering that where Christ was buried was called ‘Golgatha’, (the place if the skull) from ancient pre Christian tradition. Symbolic of ‘Victory over Death’.
