Description

SISTER MOON IV:

Dedicated to St Francis of Assisi

AVE BEADS: Faceted 8mm ‘gemcuts’ in a pale moss with coral inclusions. Granite ends blend into the colors of the Pater beads.

PATER BEADSAntique African coil disks. Their history is an interesting one and research has given us several sources of these trade beads. They are from the Asante Tribe dating from 1800 – 1900. The technique used to cast or reproduce these designs is called ‘lost wax’. Our collection, as with all we have seen are not exactly alike. Some actually have places where the casting was incomplete, which adds to their beauty. We have also seen them identified as ‘Antique Baoule (Tribe) beads and often found on the Ivory Coast. A smaller version are called ‘Sun Beads’ and are from Nigeria. (Ours are approx 1 in diameter) May not be able to replace when gone.

CRUCIFIX:  MEDIUM COPTIC – antique, Ethiopia/19c – (1.75 in.)

Rosary made in the traditional “all one loop” design and has no center.

….”All praise be yours, my Lord, through Sister Moon and Stars; In the heaves you have made them, bright and precious and fair.“………Francis of Assisi – Spring of 1224

A rare approach to rosary making. It is short at 16 in. as is the traditional ‘All in One Loop’ Design. Easier to pray. No pendant to catch on things!

ALL OUR MEDALS: All our medals are handcast from antiques and vintage pieces in sterling silver and solid bronze then antiqued to restore original patina.
