Description

ANCIENT CELTIC RING MONEY – FLAT TEXTURED RINGS –Ancient Celtic Ring Money was used for trade in pre Christian era (800 bc on). These rings are found all over Europe where the Celts moved and settled. Originally, the Celts would cast these rings in gold, silver and bronze.

Rings varied in weight and were made in units to create different valued totals necessary for trade Many became very ornate. Eventually the Romans would introduce a coin exchange.

TRADE RINGS – (Trade Rings are also found in the Great Lakes Area used for trade between the Indians and Jesuits for beaver pelts).

Part of our Equatoria Collection.

USE ON CHAPLETS, JEWELRY– We use these on our Penal Chaplets and ‘Zehner’ or ‘Tenner’ chaplets. (Use of rings on prayer counters date back to at least the 1500’s). Ring is large enough to fit on the fingers for counting prayers. Surface and shape gives itself to the beauty of hand made jewelry and chaplets when used on our designs and yours. Originally they were also worn on a chain as a sign of wealth.
