BLESSED FRA JUNIPERO SERRA OFM – (1713-1784)

AVE BEADS: These Padre beads are over 100 years old, each hand made. They are clear, not crystal clear but quite beautiful as show their age. This color chosen as they remind us of the waves before they strike the shore along the 600 mile coastal highway, El Camino de Real also known as the California Mission Trail from San Diego to Sonoma. We loved the old historical markers with their bells along the way.  Once they are gone we will not be able to replace them. 

PATER BEADS: 10mm Fine grained wood to keep this rosary simple.

CROSS:  VICTORY OVER ADAM’s SIN – late 1700’s – (2.5 in.) Cast from a piece over 100 years old.

Rosary is made in the traditional “all one loop” design without a center piece.

Fra Serra, a Spanish Franciscan, held a doctorate in theology. He was well known for moving people to penance. In 1768, Father Serra was appointed superior over 15 Franciscans for the Indian Missions of Baja California. When King Carlos III ousted the Jesuits from New Spain, Serra became the ‘Father Presidente’. Before leaving San Blas to evangelize the California’s he established the only Franciscan Mission in the Baja (Mission San Fernando Rey de Espa” a de Velicat”). On reaching the northern California’s he established the Mission San Diego de Alcal, the first of the 21 missions along the coast of California.
