Description

FRAMED MADONNA AND CHILD JESUS MEDAL: Beautiful filigreed cutwork makes this a perfect medal to wear. A small angel sits at her feet. Probably from either Peru or Bolivia early to mid 1800s. The bow on the top of the frame is very typical of this period. Earlier medals were brought from either Italy or Spain during the first of the 1800s but the artisans in Spanish Colonial America (New Spain), in the process of copying this new style, created their own more primitive style. A wonderful piece that is about 200 years old.
