Description

NORTH AMERICAN MARTYRS MEDAL: We waited 6 monthis for this beautiful reminder of the North American Jesuit Martyrs, ‘REVERSE JESUIT MARTYRS OF NORTH AMERICA’ (our Jesuit friend shared that his Canadian Jesuits love to remind him there was no “America” in the 1650s so they are Canadian Martyrs!). At any rate, we honor these 8 Jesuit saints sharing this history.

HISTORY OF THE 8 JESUIT MARTYRS: The North American Martyrs, also known as the Canadian Martyrs or the Martyrs of New France, were eight Jesuit missionaries from Sainte-Marie among the Hurons, who were martyred in the mid-17th century in Canada, in what is now southern Ontario and upstate New York, during the warfare between the Iroquois and the Huron.

NAMES AND DATES OF MARTYRDOM The Martyrs are St. Jean de Brébeuf (1649),St. Noél Chabanel (1649), St. Antoine Daniel (1648), St. Charles Garnier (1649),[2] St. René Goupil (1642), St. Isaac Jogues (1646), St. Jean de Lalande (1646), and St. Gabriel Lalemant (1649).
