PERE MARQUETTE I – CHAPLET OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION:

BEADS: We have used Russian Blue Fur Trade beads from Venice that are over 200 years old on this corona or chaplet, along with old recycled glass trades from Africa. Neither would have been available for a chaplet for Pere Marquette but because of their historical value, they would be a good choice to honor Fr Marquette. The blue-green beads used as a reminder of naming the Mississippi river – Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.

MEDAL:  MIRACULOUS MEDAL (1830) – antique, Europe/1850’s – (1.25 in.)

OPTIONAL CRUCIFIX: PLAIN CRUCIFIX – antique, Italy/1910’s – (2.1 in.)

CORONA / CROWN / CHAPLET: All three names reflect the words from Rev 12 and the crown of 12 stars around the head of the Virgin with the child. The Virgin of the Immaculate Conception. Queen of Heaven (telling the first and eternal of her presence in our lives)

MIRACULOUS MEDAL CHAPLET: CHAPLET OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION This chaplet, is also known as the Miraculous Medal Chaplet as composed by St. John Berchmanns, SJ. He prayed it daily to obtain Mary’s intercession. His desire was to never commit any sin against the virtue of purity.

MEDAL OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION (Miraculous Medal) was given to Saint Catherine Laboure on November 27th, 1830 by the Blessed Virgin Mary, herself. She asked Catherine to have a medal struck of the image she gave her so that her children could wear it around their neck. She assured her they would receive special graces. So may prayers were answered that it became known as the Miraculous Medal The reverse side has a cross coming up from an M. The 2 hearts are below, one on either side (Sacred Heart of Jesus and Pierced heart of Mary, and is surrounded by 12 stars. The front of the medal pictures Mary with her arms out stretched and framed in the following words

Mary, conceived without original sin,
pray for us who have recourse to thee”
