AVE BEADS: Beautifully faceted 8mm sky blue  glass beads from Czechoslovakia in a design called ‘Cathedral Windows’. Pressed from the design of old glass bead  molds.  Very fine quality.

PATER BEADS: Sterling filigree beads in the old tradition so popular during the 18c for Filigree Rosaries

CRUCIFIX & CENTER:  ITALIAN ROSARY SET – Italy/1930’s – (2 in.)

CHAPLET CRUCIFIX:  MEDIUM FANCY – antique, France/1880’s – (2 in.)

ABOUT ST MARY MAJOR: in honor of Mary, ‘Our Lady of the Snows’ – the largest church dedicated to Mary in the world.  The Eucharist has been continuously celebrated here since the 5th century.

IT SNOWED IN AUGUST
Saint Mary Major, Our Lady of the Snows.  A wonderful tradition here as Mary appeared to Pope Liberius (352-366) and told him she wanted a church built on Esquiline Hill. That she would leave a sign.  Why? Because it would embrace and honor her Eucharistic son, Jesus. The next morning the Holy Father rushed up the hill and there  –  in a perfect rectangle – snow had fallen.  This wonderful miracle happened on a very hot morning on the 5th of August, 358 AD.
