‘WE ARE ONE’ – Blessed Father Rutilio Grande SJ: (5 July 1928, El Paisnal 12 March 1977, Aguilares) Beatified 2022

AVE BEADS: Oval shaped dark brown horn beads, in simplicity to follow the rosaries carried and prayed by priests and religious.

PATER BEADS: Dark brown wooden beads (sun and moon beads) pierced to symbolize the assassination of Fr Grande. Each framed in antiqued metal caps with red faceted beads on either side to remind one of the blood shed when he was assassinated.

CRUCIFIX:  CRUCIFIX /HEART – antique, Latin America/1800’s – (2.75 in.)

CENTER:  ANGELS with HEART – antique, Oaxaca/19c- (1.1 in.)

WHO WAS RUTILIO GRANDE SJ’ A close and dear friend of Oscar Romero. He spoke out against poverty, social injustice, assassinations and torture and encouraged his friend Romero to take on a deeper awareness against the government’s actions against the church and its people.

AFTER HIS FRIENDS ASSASSINATION BY THE GOVERNMENT, ROMERO SAID: ‘When I looked at my friend Fr. Rutilio lying there dead I thought, ‘If they have killed him for doing what he did, then I too have to walk the same path’

Shortly after, Romero was Martyred while celebrating Mass.
